What the heck is cache? You might seen cache content in both desktop and smartphone. But what is it? How this caching memory is used? What is it’s purpose, Here in this guide, We explain all about caching and its methodology.
Have you ever wondered about cache memory? Yup, It’s is memory which is completely different. Though the term memory here do not implies specific storage cards. But what is cache and how is it useful?
What is cache memory and its uses?
Function of the cache memory?
What is stored in the cache memory?
Purpose of a cache memory?
” Cache Memory Explained – What The Heck Is CACHE? “
Cache memory is one of the recommended specification to be taken in to consideration. While you’ve get a new desktop or laptop. With default this memory is stored inside the CPU.
Attached to the Micro Processor, The CACHE MEMORY performs robustly. Which means that the size of cache memory is too small when compared to HDD and RAM. But it works faster than they both.
Why Cache Memory Used For?
So the programs which you use often on your computer are stored under caching memory. This makes CPU check the available programs stored in cache before performing any task.
In simple words, The programs which you use the most are stored inside cache and the next time when you open or use those programs caching improves the performance of that specific program.
Now that, Let us consider a perfect real-life example for cache. Fist things first, Whenever you need money you fist you check your purse. Then if you don’t have enough money inside your wallet then you check your saved money at home.
Later on in the same sense you go to the bank and withdraw money. And in the same vice-versa caching works.
Your WALLET is the Cache memory in the computer world. Thereby savings at your home is the RAM and Bank acts as Hard Disk.
So whenever you open an application on desktop or on your smartphone. Firstly cache memory performs tasks within nanosecond. Then after if it contains cached memory of that specific program, It helps RAM to open that program providing all the necessary files and data.
At the same sense, On your smartphone caching works up to a certain limit. If the limit exceeds then chances of lagging and hanging of smartphone occurs. But this issue is now solved with most updated flagships.
In case of the CPU, It can handle the performance of caching an re build cache.
So this is why cache memory is installed on an CPU. Available at a specific amount of 3MB, 6MB or 8MB etc which completely depends on the amount you spend on a cpu. The higher the caching rate it the more robustly the processor can perform tasks.
Types Of Cache Memory
Right now there are three types of cache memory’s available.
- Label I, II and
- Label III
Caching is available with all the processors, Either it might be dual core or any. The difference between the Label I,II & III cache memories is that. Label I & II are connected with the processor and Label III is fixed externally to the motherboard.
If you own an Dual Core CPU then it has both Label I and II type cache memories attached to each core. If you own Label III type with dual core the it will be shared for both cores.
In the end, This was all about Cache Memory. Hope you found this post useful. And make sure to share your impressions on this post in the comments section below. Do follow our blog techFlout for more and more interesting tech guides. Don’t forget to share – your friends will thank you.
